One of the lessons to be learned is speaking within a certain interval. When a speaker has
reached the minimum time to qualify, the green light will come on (Flip the green switch).
The yellow light comes on as a caution half way between the minimum and maximum time
(Flip the yellow switch). When the speaker has reached the maximum time, the red light will
come on (Flip the red switch), and the speaker will have 30 seconds to finish or be

To qualify to win, the topic must last from 1 minute to 2 minutes and 30 seconds.
GREEN light goes on at 1 minute.
YELLOW light goes on at 1 minute, 30 seconds.

length of their speeches.
Time each speech as stated in the manual. The GREEN light goes on 2 minutes before the
maximum required time unless otherwise stated in the speakerís manual. The YELLOW light
goes on half way between the minimum and maximum time which is usually one minute before
the maximum time. The RED light goes on at the maximum required time.
Example: 5 - 7 minute speech
GREEN light goes on at 5 minutes.
YELLOW light goes on at 6 minutes.
RED light goes on at 7 minutes.
A 30 second extension exists at the beginning and
end of the speech. The speaker
qualifies if he or she speaks 4 minutes 30 seconds to 7 minutes 30 seconds.
The time for each evaluation is 2 to 3 minutes,
with 30 second extension at the end. To qualify
to win, evaluation must last between 2 minutes and 3 minutes 30 seconds.
GREEN light goes on at 2 minutes.
YELLOW light goes on at 2 minutes, 30 seconds.
RED light goes on at 3 minutes.
