“Do you know tones of Viola is said to be the closest tone to human voice among all musical instruments?
MARIERIKA is a viola and piano duo. Japanese sisters formed in 2006. We first started our musical training in the classical music field and gradually expanded our interests and techniques to other fields, such as pops and Japanese music.
MARIERIKA inspires people with their shining music. We have
integrated classical elements with pop music and have created their unique
style of classical pops by viola and piano. Without vocals, we produce a touch
of feeling of vocal music. We sing songs with viola and piano!
In 2010, MARIERIKA released their first album “Orange Blue”. The album theme was largely inspired from vivid, laid-back seaside scenes from the shiny morning to the gradational sunset.
The following year, the second album “Kusou” (Playing music in the Sky) was released. MARIERIKA enhanced their creation. We put lots of time and considerations in order to lively express elements, which can take you to the world of fantasy!
In attempt to expand our musical fortes and interpretation, we mused Japanese traditional flavor interact with western origin instruments. We composed “Mai” (Dancing) for our third album. This song was created with an image of a Japanese traditional dancer dancing in the cherry blossom petals blown in the wind like a snow storm. They created a new style of music, music with Japanese traditional elements played by western instruments. The main theme song of this album “Mai” has nominated as the opening theme music for the in-flight tv program “SKY EYE~” by the most famous Japanese airline company, All Nippon Airline (ANA).
In 2013, our third album “SKY EYE” was released along
with the ANA’s “SKY EYE ~ Message from the Sky” program. We wrote the opening
and ending theme music for this video program. Some songs from our first and
second albums are also run in this video program as BGM. In the same year, we
performed in the Kumamoto Castle for the Kumamoto Castle Fall Festival in
Kumamoto, Japan. It was a very rare opportunity to play music on the tatami mats
in the castle. We were accompanied with the armored “Samurai” and played classic
to pop music with western origin instruments in the traditional Japanese
castle. Our music may be mismatched with the Japanese castle and “Samurai”; however,
this mismatch was harmonized by the “East meets West ” concept.
In 2016, our fourth album “MIYABI” was released. From this album, “MIYABI” and “FANTASY” are played in the refreshed version of the ANA’s “SKY EYE ~ Message from the Sky”.
MARIERIKA’s songs have been run as BGM for TV and radio programs. In 2014, BGM of “Imperial Special - Catherine Princess and Michiko-sama” who was broadcast on BS Asahi, From2015, the theme song of FM Yokohama "Kamakura Mametaria-na"
We also appeared a local cable TV show and some radio talk shows including FM Yokohama in Yokohama and ABC Radio in Osaka etc…
MARIERIKA has performed at the various types of concerts from music clubs to large concert halls. We also play for dinner concerts, private concerts, outdoor concerts and charity concerts. MARIERIKA composed the theme music for the 26th Moss Burger Cooperative Group Conference and we performed at the Maihama Amphitheater in Chiba, Japan.
MARIERIKA can sing songs with instruments and can deliver warm messages to people in the world. We give comfort and power to people of all ages in the world with our rhetorical music.
We treasure the soul of the Japanese people and will play the fusion of Japanese and Western music. And with MARIERIKA’s music, we want to deliver love and happiness to all over the world.
